I didn't have something specific in mind when I made this the first time. Each of my friends that tried it also thought it was really good.

  2. 2 cuplentils (after pre-soak)
  3. 1/4 stickbutter, unsalted
  4. 1/2 largezucchini, chopped
  5. 1/2sweet onion, chopped
  6. 8 clovegarlic, minced
  7. 1 tbspteriyaki sauce
  8. 3 tspdried basil
  9. 1/4 lbground beef
  10. 3red chillies, destemmed with seeds
  11. 1fresh black pepper, to taste

Cooking Instructions

45 mins
  1. 1

Add the rice and lentils together. Use a medium saucepan to bring to a boil. Then put aside until later.

  2. 2

Butter a frying pan on medium high heat. Add vegetables, stirring frequently.

  3. 3

As the vegetables begin to brown and become crispy, slowly add teriyaki sauce. Continue to stir. Be careful not to get the vegetables mushy.

  4. 4

Reduce heat to medium and sprinkle basil.

  5. 5

Using another frying pan, heat to medium high. Add ground beef.

  6. 6

As the beef is cooking, and if desired, add chillies now. Reduce heat to medium.

  7. 7

Using a spatula, add the rice and lentils first. Then layer that with beef; and that with the vegetables.

  8. 8

    Serve and enjoy.
