1 cupChopped Dates
2 tspBaking Soda
2 tbspShortening, melted
3/4 cupSugar
1/2 tspSalt
1 tspVanilla
1Egg, beaten well
2 1/4 cupFlour
1 cupChopped Nuts

Simmer water and dates togeter for 3 minutes.

Cool slightly, then add soda.

Combine remaining ingredients, then add nuts and date mixture. Blend well.

Bake at 350 for 1 hour
