Combine the beaten eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla in a bowl. Then add the grated orange peel - orange zest.

Bread slices: cut in half diagonally - like toasts

Dip the bread in the egg mixture - one at a time.

Layer the bread in a buttered baking dish (9x13-inch) or 10-inch round pan. Makes 3 layers.

Then pour the rest of the egg mixture on top, letting it pour down between the bread slices.

Bake at 350F for 40-45 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Serve with maple syrup.

Leftovers: store covered in the fridge.
