Ingredients

20 - 25 Minutes
2 servings
  • 1/2 cupBroken wheat
  • 1 teaspoonGhee
  • 1/4 teaspoonMustard
  • 1Dried red chilli
  • 1/4 teaspoonUrad dal
  • 1 tablespoonCashew chopped
  • 1 pinch- Hing / asafoetida
  • 1 pinch- Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cupOnion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoonGinger, finely chopped
  • 1 sprigCurry leaves -
  • 1, finely chopped Green chilli
  • 1, finely grated Carrot
  • As per taste - Salt
  • 1 1/4 cupWater

Steps

20 - 25 Minutes
  1. 1

    Rinse the broken wheat and drain well.

  2. 2

    Heat ghee in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dried chilli, urad dal and cashews. When cashews turn golden, add a pinch of hing. Stir for few seconds.

  3. 3

    Now add in onion, ginger, green chilli, curry leaves, carrot. Stir until onion turns transparent. Add turmeric powder and mix well. Saute for a minute.

  4. 4

    Add the broken wheat. Mix well. Fry the broken wheat for 3 - 4 minutes.

  5. 5

    Add water and salt. Mix well. Cover and cook for about 15 minutes or until done.

  6. 6

    Broken wheat upma is ready!!
