Soft, fluffy and custardy. I hope you try this easy recipe at home. I made this less sweet so that I can eat it with maple syrup. The addition of mirin and soy sauce also gives the french toast a very subtle savory oomph. Inspired by iamafoodblog.

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 2 slicesthickly sliced bread (soft fluffy bread recommended)
  2. 2eggs
  3. 1/4 cupfresh milk
  4. 1 tbspsugar
  5. 1 tbspmirin
  6. 1/2 tbspsoy sauce

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Trim away the crust of your bread and cut each slice into two rectangular pieces.

  2. 2

Make the egg mixture by combining eggs, milk, sugar, mirin and soy sauce. You may choose to strain the mixture, I did not do that.

  3. 3

Soak bread pieces into the egg mixture for 30 minutes then flip over carefully to soak the other side for 30 minutes. The bread is very soft.

  4. 4

Heat a lightly oiled pan on low heat. Cook the bread on one side for 8 minutes, covered. Then carefully flip over and cook the other side for 5-8 minutes, covered.

  5. 5

French toast should be golden brown and fluffy. Enjoy with butter and maple syrup.

Hey Moo, would you be able to use almond milk instead of regular milk?
