Simple dal with a twist

Dal masoor has a cosiness about it. It reflects love and warmth of simple folk. Recently I added some spice and made it my own. I would love to share with you my experiment with my all time favorite malka masoor.

Dal masoor has a cosiness about it. It reflects love and warmth of simple folk. Recently I added some spice and made it my own. I would love to share with you my experiment with my all time favorite malka masoor.
Steps
- 1
Wash the dal two or three times and set aside
- 2
In the pressure cooker (which will act as our cooking pot as well),add some oil. Let cumin seeds splutter and addthe dried chilli. Add chopped onion and garlic. Saute.
- 3
Add chopped tomato and dried spices. Add the dal.
- 4
Just before adding the water [ratio can be 1:3 roughly], add 1/4 teaspoon of sambar powder. Sambar powder is sour and a bit spicy. it will add a dimension to your otherwise routine dal flavour.
- 5
After 3 whistles, dal masoor is ready. Adjust water depending on individual taste. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve. A unique taste but one that doesn't interfere with dal's original flavour. Bom apetite!
