This is traditionally made from raw mangoes. I have made it with cooking apples and it tastes exactly like mangoes.

This is traditionally made from raw mangoes. I have made it with cooking apples and it tastes exactly like mangoes.

Peel the apples and cut in small pieces.
In a wide bottom pan add oil and cloves. Once the oil is hot add asafoetida and add the apples. Add turmeric and salt and mix well. (keep the heat low). Cook the apples for 1 minute. Do not over cook. - 2

Add sugar and mix. Cook on low heat until it is transparent and forms 1 string consistency. Keep stirring occasionally.
Once done let it cool for 20 to 30 minutes. Add the chilli powder and mix well. Let it cool completely and transfer in a sterilised jar. - 4
