Thoroughly grease a 600ml/ 1 pint pudding basin

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour and salt

Add the suet,sugar, currants and mixed peel. Mix together thoroughly with a large wooden spoon

Mix in the egg and sufficient milk to produce a smooth dropping consistency

Place the mixture into the prepared pudding basin. Cover with some pleated greaseproof paper and seal with kitchen foil

Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer. Add the pudding basin to the bowl. Steam the pudding for about 1 1/2 hours.

Turn out the pudding onto a large plate. Spoon into individual bowls and serve hot with custard or golden Syrup.
