So here is a lentil curry of roasted moong dal (split green gram) combined with banana stem. This is an absolutely simple homemade recipe, without onion, garlic and too many spices. Light on the stomach, it is enjoyed with either steamed rice or chapattis.

Pressure cook the dal and banana stem in 2 cups water for 4-5 whistles. Keep aside. Heat oil in a pan and temper with cumin seeds, bay leaves, red chilies, cinnamon, cloves and cardamoms. Sauté for a few seconds.

Add the ginger and fry for a few seconds more. Add the boiled dal, salt and turmeric powder. Mix well and simmer on a low flame for 2-3 minutes.

When done, add ghee and give it a stir. Serve either with steamed rice or chapattis.
