In a mixing bowl, combine the milk and cornstarch and mix well.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and pour the milk and cornstarch mixture over the caramel, stirring to combine.

Return the saucepan to the heat and stir constantly until the mixture thickens into a custard.

Pour the custard into ramekins and let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.

Serve the crème caramel well chilled.
