Heat a kadhai and add oil in a pan, when it gets hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, turmeric, green chillies, onion and saute it till it turns transparent. Now add Spiny gourd to it. Mix well and sauté it.

Simmer gas flame cover it with lid and cook. Then add salt to taste, grated coconut. Mix well.

Serve it with chapati, roti, puri, etc.
