Ingredients

  1. 1 and 1/2 cup Rice flour
  2. 1/2 cupflattened rice (thick pohe)
  3. 1/2 roasted Chana dal (Futana)
  4. 1/2 cup black gram flour (urad dal)
  5. 1/4 cup oil for dough
  6. 1/4 liter Oil for frying
  7. 1tbsp sesame seeds
  8. 1/2 tspSpices salt, red chilies powder each
  9. 1tspCoriander cumin powder
  10. Turmeric and asafoetida one pinch each
  11. 2 and 1/4 th cupMedium hot water

    Roast poha till crisp then heat roasted Chana dal for half min. Cool and make powder in a small grinder.

  2. 2

    Roast rice flour for a minute then add urad dal flour and roast for half a min.

  3. 3

    Mix well all flours add sesame seeds, spices and salt. Mix throughly.

  4. 4

    Heat oil and add to the flour. Rub fat (oil) to the flour to make crumble like consistency.

  5. 5

    Make a dough using medium hot water. Dough should not be to hard or not too soft. It should be of medium consistency.

  6. 6

    Take one portion of the dough and knead well to make a cylindrical shape. Place it in a chakali mould.

  7. 7

    Press out three to four chakalis and fry in oil on medium heat. Flip the chakalis after about a minute and continue frying for about three minutes more or till chakalis turn golden in color.

  8. 8

    Your crispy chakalis are ready. When they are cool put them in airtight containers.
