Easy! Charaben (Decorative Bentos) For School Outings - Sully and Mike from Monsters Inc.

I wanted to make easy onigiri characters, so I made Monsters Inc. characters for my son who is a fan! They aren't realistic, but I adapted them so that they can be made easily on busy mornings.

The onigiri are small, so they are easier to form if you wrap the rice in plastic wrap to form them.
Put Sully's facial features in the middle of the onigiri, more towards the top half. You don't need a lot of ingredients, and everything is easy to handle, so you can make these even when you are short on time. Recipe by Anzukorin

Steps

  1. 1

Mix each decorative furikake into half of the rice respectively to color it.

  2. 2

Form each portion of rice into a ball with fillings of your choice. Make the blue rice into a teardrop shape, leaving a tiny bit in reserve. Flatten to top of the teardrop shape.

  3. 3

Cut 2 small and 1 large circle out of the thin sliced cheese. Cut the nori seaweed out into circles that a a bit smaller than the cheese circles.

  4. 4

Make triangular cuts in the small nori circles. Cut a small circle out of the larger nori circle (Mike's eye). Put the nori on the cheese circles to make the eyes.

  5. 5

Cut out the mouth and nose parts from nori, and cut small triangles out of the thin sliced cheese to make the fangs. Cut out the horns from the thick sliced cheese, and secure them to Sully's head using pieces of long thin pasta.

  6. 6

Put all the parts on the onigiri. Put the reserved blue rice above Sully's eyes for his brow. Done.
