Bigos (Hunters Stew) for Slowcooker Bigos (Hunters Stew) for Slowcooker
15min prep/6h cook.Learned first hand from my late polish grandmother. I grew up with this and made sure I recreated this dish as accurately as possible. She didn't have a slow cooker so I sacrilegiously feel like the taste is even improved by reducing the temperature and increasing the time. Originally this was made in a pressure cooker. This recipe will give you a lot of umaminous stew which freezes beautifully and is easily reheated in a microwave. Keeps for a week in the fridge and tastes great even cold with a slice of sourdough bread or a side of simple mash potatoes. Without a side it's relatively low carb. Kids love it. Great for parties. Polish peoe will be impressed. Markus Lenhard -
Polish Hunter's Stew - Bigos Polish Hunter's Stew - Bigos
I miss the wild mushrooms that my father gathered from the local forests surrounding our home in Willis, Michigan in the 1950s. He looked for two types in particular, a morel mushroom in the spring and a brown mushroom in the early fall. In the fall, there were many types of mushrooms—some edible, and some deadly poisonous. My dad knew the one type that was edible and could recognize it at a glance. We feasted on fresh from the forest mushrooms sautéed with onions in butter.Mushrooms are also a mainstay of a fall/winter dish of Hunter’s Stew, or Bigos (bee-goes). The traditional meats for this sauerkraut/cabbage stew are those that a hunter might find—venison or rabbit, perhaps. My mother made her version with pork ribs and smoked or fresh kielbasa, simmered for hours in a big soup pot on the stove. She called it Kapusta (kah-poo-stah) which is the Polish word for cabbage. Every Polish family has their own version. This recipe is an easy one for beginners. If you make it, please let me know how it turned out for you! Adam Janowski -
Polish Sauerkraut Cooking: Bigos Polish Sauerkraut Cooking: Bigos
This is traditional Polish food that's usually served in autumn and winter. Polish people eat this dish from when they're kids.Like curry, the more you heat this dish, the more delicious it'll become. Just be aware that if you keep it in the fridge for too long it could start to go bad. Recipe by Mokukku cookpad.japan -

Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce
Bolognese is another sauce that reminds me of my childhood. At least once a month, my mom would make it for us. To me, it was a delicious delight, but to her it was a money saver. Sauce, meat, herbs, & spices. Simple, but oh so good.I order it a lot, when I go out. But as with a lot of stuff, I wanted to make it myself. Combining different recipes found online, I came up with this recipe, along with my wife. This is the recipe that we agreed upon.We hope that you like it as much as we do. #mycookbookEnjoy! J.A.B. -
