Crockpot (or not) General Tso's Chicken

My General Tso's is kind of a copycat of a local family owned Chinese restaurant. Once I tasted theirs I had to make it at home. It is amazing. The crockpot method is great for making a lot for a group.

My General Tso's is kind of a copycat of a local family owned Chinese restaurant. Once I tasted theirs I had to make it at home. It is amazing. The crockpot method is great for making a lot for a group.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut chicken into bite sized pieces and toss in corn starch and black pepper. I use a large ziplock bag.
- 2
Brown in skillit for a few minutes.
- 3
IN CROCKPOT: Move chicken to crockpot. Mix all other ingredients and pour over chicken. Let cook on low 3-4 hours on high 2-3 hours.
- 4
When there is a half hour left of cooking, mix 2 tbsp of corn starch and 3 tbsp of water and add to crockpot to thicken sauce.
- 5
STOVETOP: finish cooking the chicken in the skillet while you mix all other ingredients(omit the corn starch and water)in a pot and bring it to a boil. Add the sauce in the skillit when the chicken is done. simmer untill sauce is thick.
- 6
Sprinkle with green onion and sesame seeds for garnish and serve over rice, or with a side of steamed broccoli.

Slow Cooker General Tso's Chicken Slow Cooker General Tso's Chicken
I first tried General Tso's Chicken when I was about 13. It was spicy, it was tasty, and it was very different from our usual Chinese Take-out Orders. I loved it at first sight. I started cooking a few years later and was always up for trying to make it, but I was intimidated.A few years ago, I tried to make Orange Chicken and it was very easy to make, so tasty. When we bought our slow cooker about a year ago, I have made a lot of different Asian inspired dishes. I found a few different recipes for General Tso's in the slow cooker, but they either had too many ingredients or the reviews were poor.As usual, I took from a few different recipes, combined them, then added a few other steps of my own. I made this my recipe and loved it. It is so easy to make and very tasty. Hopefully, you will like it as much as I did.Enjoy! J.A.B. -
General Tso Chicken General Tso Chicken
The crispiness of the chicken is mostly due to the corn starch in the dry mix. If you like a more saucy dish then I would double the sauce ingredients. Currently this is enough to just coat the chicken.kromed68

This is my version of the classic General Tso Chicken which is served in almost all American Chinese restaurants. Of course, this is all about the sauce. I used a variety of vegetables in my version and the great thing about a lot of Chinese dishes is you can substitute any vegetables you like. fenway -
General Tso Chicken Cutlets General Tso Chicken Cutlets
I had an urge for Orange chicken or General Tso. Didn't have the stuff to make Orange chicken, but did for General Tso's. Wanted to separate the white and dark meat, this was a good solution. Was still pretty quick and easy this way. If you are not a fan of a super thick sauce, use more broth/water in the sauce. Fo Fa -

This menu is originated from Hunan, China. The dish is named after Zuo Zongtang, a Qing dynasty statesman and military leader. Don’t know why people named this dish General Tso. According to Wikipedia, there is no recorded connection to him nor the dish. IG @jenscookingdiary jenscookingdiary
