This is the torrijas recipe that has been passed down in our family for three generations, from a village in Andalusia.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Slice the loaf of bread into pieces.
- 2
You should get about 16 slices.
- 3
Mix the sugar with the cinnamon.
- 4
Add the milk and stir well until the sugar dissolves.
- 5
Soak the bread slices in the milk, sugar, and cinnamon mixture.
- 6
Once soaked, transfer the slices to a tray and let them sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the mixture well.
- 7
Beat the eggs.
- 8
Pour plenty of oil into a skillet and heat it up.
- 9
Dip the soaked bread slices into the beaten eggs.
- 10
Fry the slices, turning them so they cook on both sides until golden brown.
- 11
Place the fried torrijas on a tray lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- 12
To make the syrup, put the honey and the 1/4 cup of water in a saucepan.
- 13
Heat until it starts to boil, then remove from the heat.
- 14
Spoon the syrup over all the torrijas.
- 15
After 10 to 15 minutes, flip them so the syrup soaks both sides.
- 16
Delicious for breakfast, a snack, or whenever you like.

At home, dulce de leche is a must-have, so I came up with the idea to make mini dulce de leche sandwiches and dress them up like torrijas. The result is simply amazing. Air Fryer Torrijas Air Fryer Torrijas
Today is Torrija Day and I didn’t want to miss it, so here’s this air fryer version. With this recipe, you can make two large torrijas in an air fryer. If you want to make more, just multiply the ingredients and cook them in batches of two at a time. They taste very similar to traditional torrijas but are lower in calories since they’re not fried in oil. If you use erythritol instead of sugar—a sweetener that looks and tastes similar but has no calories—you’ll have a healthier dessert with far fewer calories.Although they might seem a bit labor-intensive, if you organize yourself well, you can make several batches without much effort.
