Authentic French Onion Soup
When it gets cold, this is the dish to make! It warms you up. If you freeze the onions, they caramelize easily!
Steps
- 1
Peel the onions and slice them thinly. *If you freeze them, they caramelize easily!
- 2
Heat a pot over medium heat, add the butter and melt it, then add the onions and sauté until caramelized. *Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- 3
Add the ingredients marked A and simmer, then adjust the taste with salt and pepper. *This alone makes a delicious onion soup!
- 4
Cut the baguette (or similar bread) into easy-to-eat sizes and toast in an oven (or toaster).
- 5
Preheat the oven to 430°F (220°C).
- 6
Pour the soup from step 3 into an oven-safe dish, place the toasted bread from step 4 on top, add cheese, and bake in the oven at 430°F (220°C) for about 7 minutes until browned.
- 7
If you don't have an oven, heat in a microwave at 600W for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the cheese melts.
