Gather all the ingredients. Wash and chop the tomatoes, and peel the garlic.

Roast all the ingredients.

Add all the roasted ingredients and salt to a blender jar and blend into a paste.

Set aside the ingredients for tempering.

Heat oil in a pan. Add dried red chilies, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.

Turn off the heat and add the blended paste. Mix well.

Serve the green tomato chutney with paratha or idli.
