This is Daal Kheema or Lentils with Lamb Mince. And the Lentils used here are the fresh one's in a pod as these are in Season now here in India. These are later dried to get those Pigeon Pea Lentils or Toor Daal that is used in abundantly in the Country on a daily basis as it is one of the most popular and favourite Lentils of every Indian.

In this aromatic and healthy Non-Veg version by me, these fresh Pigeon Peas are made with Potatoes and minced Lamb. It is one of the most loved in my family and I always make it during the Season. An innovative twist by me to the usual Aloo Kheema. It's a perfect choice for mealtimes. And goes very well alongside healthy and homemade Rotis or Chapatis and also Parathas for Dinner. This Curry is perfect for Breakfast and Lunch as well. Also a good idea for Lunchbox. All in all a great option for the daily cooking with a beautiful twist from the routine Daal, Chawal and Sabzi. It is something so unique and flavourful plus easily done with loads of healthy goals.

Steps

30-35 minutes
  1. 1

In a clay pot, heat both ghee and oil. Add whole spices. Fry for a minute. Now add the onions. Saute onions until translucent. Also add cubed potatoes too. Saute until the raw smell fades away. And finally add the tomatoes followed by the mince once the tomatoes are soft and done.

  2. 2

With that, add all the powdered spices as mentioned. Mix and cook on a low heat with a lid on. Keep stirring at regular intervals to keep a watch on it.

  3. 3

After the mince is nicely roasted, add fresh pigeon peas or fresh toor. Do not add water. If needed, you can add some hot water. Cover and cook until done. The flavours infuse really well and the curry looks so good.

Homemaker by choice and a passionate cook by heart. An aspiring cook who actually never knew anything about Cooking until i became a mother myself. With Motherhood came the responsibilities as well and this was the turning point in my life.I started to learn the ABC's of cooking, taking help from my mother and my MIL. And time just flew. I spread my wings higher and higher. With my love for excellence and innovation, i stepped into a world of homecooks with my exposure to Cookpad one fine day on the social media. And there was no looking back since then and i have not only shared recipes here on this wonderful platform but also have made some lovely friends as well. Today iam successful because of my hard work, dedication and loads of good wishes of my family and my kids in particular.
