Today , being the Auspicious Day , Hariyali Amavasya of the Hindu Calendar, I decided to make Doodhpak , a traditional Indian Sweet from my childhood memories. This is a quicker & easier version of the old , elaborate recipe.

Hariyali Amavasya is celebrated in praise of Lord Shiva . This festival is dedicated to nature & ancestors & is celebrated with reverence & joy . It is a day to offer prayers to ancestors & seek their Blessings & guidance.

Many Hindus observe fast on this day or eat only 1 meal on this day . Generally Kheer , Malpua, Rabdi or Doodhpak is prepared on this day & offered as Prasad to Lord Shiva .

Gujarati Doodh Pak is a rich & creamy dessert & specially considered Auspicious during Amavasya. In many Gujarati households, Doodhpak is prepared & relished after offering it to the Gods . It is a simple yet elegant dish with subtle sweetness & rich flavors of cardamom , saffron & nutmeg .

As a child , I used to have Doodhpak & puffed up puris for lunch on such Auspicious Occasions. This used to be my favorite lunch . I have tried to serve it the same way to evoke childhood memories .💓❤🧡
