Potato Tater Tots

Tater Tots are an all time favorite food which can be served as a side with bread in breakfast or as an evening snack with a cup of tea. These tots can be stored frozen and fried any time as you wish. These homemade tater tots are crunchy on the outside, tender inside and packed with flavor. Whether you fry or bake them , these tots will become a family favorite. These tots are small , cylindrical bites made from grated potatoes which are seasoned and then deep - fried to a crispy golden brown.

These tots are small , cylindrical bites made from grated potatoes which are seasoned and then deep - fried to a crispy golden brown.

Peel and cut potatoes in fourths. Parboil them for 5 minutes to retain the texture after grating it.To check pierce a knife so that it gets easily pierced.The potatoes should neither be hard nor soft.Grate 2 potatoes with the large hole of a grater.. Transfer the grated potatoes in a bowl.Chop into small cubes the other parboiled potato.Add finely chopped onion, minced garlic and 1 tsp garlic paste or powder.

Now add red chilli powder, black pepper powder, chilli flakes,1 tsp butter, chopped coriander, mixed herbs, cornflour,All-purpose flour, salt to taste. Add grated cheese cube and mix all gently into a dough.

Let stand for 5 minutes.Use 1 1/2 tsp potato mixture for each tot. Shape into small cylindrical tots.Refrigerate for 10 minutes.Heat oil and deep fry few at a time for 5 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper.Store rest of the tots in an airtight container and deep freeze.

Serve potato tater tots immediately with salad and a dipping sauce.They pair well with bread, scrambled egg in breakfast or as an appetizer with tea or any drinks of choice. Enjoy !
Tips
Grate potatoes gently after you parboil them so that they are not mushy.Adding small cubed parboiled potato along with grated ones lends a texture to the tots .It is advisable to chill the tots before frying. Frozen ones fry well.
