Moong Dal with lauki

Moong Dal makes very common appearance at our home. I always look forward to making different version for husband's tiffin. The split whole green gram/split green moong dal here is cooked with lauki/bottle gourd and tempered lightly with green chillies and tomato.

Moong Dal makes very common appearance at our home. I always look forward to making different version for husband's tiffin. The split whole green gram/split green moong dal here is cooked with lauki/bottle gourd and tempered lightly with green chillies and tomato.
Steps
- 1
Soak the dal for 10-15 minutes.
- 2
In a cooker, heat oil and add the jeera and mustard seeds. Let them crackle. Add the hing also.
- 3
Now put the green chilly and onions. Sweat them for 3-4 minutes.
- 4
Add the tomatoes and the masalas- turmeric, chilly powder, dhaniya powder and salt.
- 5
Cook off the spices for few seconds and then add about 1/4 cup water.
- 6
Once the tomatoes are soft, add the lauki and the soaked dal.
- 7
Add the remaining water and put the lid on.
- 8
1 whistle on full flame and 2 on a medium low heat shall ensure a perfectly cooked dal.
- 9
Serve with fulka/paratha or even have it like soup.
