Steps
- 1
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
- 2
Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess grease if needed.
- 3
Stir in the cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- 4
Add the rinsed rice and stir to coat it in the spices. Pour in the beef broth (or water), then add the bay leaves. Bring to a boil.
- 5
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18–20 minutes. Add the frozen peas (and/or carrots) during the last 5–7 minutes of cooking.
- 6
Remove the bay leaves. Fluff the rice with a fork and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Tips
For extra flavor, use beef broth instead of water, and let the rice rest for a few minutes before fluffing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. 🍚🥩
