My lovely mama used to make this dish for us just about every weekend. She would change it up now n then but this version is the very first! Now I carry the tradition on with my kids in hopes that they will do the same!

My lovely mama used to make this dish for us just about every weekend. She would change it up now n then but this version is the very first! Now I carry the tradition on with my kids in hopes that they will do the same!

Ingredients

  1. 14 ozpackage of breakfast maple sausage links(cut into small bite size pieces)
  2. 4 cupany type of bread cubes ( she always just used the regular ole store bought loaves)
  3. 8 largefresh eggs
  4. 2 3/4 cupmilk
  5. 1 1/4 tspground mustard
  6. 4 cupcheese ( we use yellow and white cheddar)
  7. 1/2green pepper, chopped small
  8. 1/2onion, chopped small
  9. 4 ozfresh mushrooms, chopped
  10. 1salt n pepper...your preference

Cooking Instructions

    Cut bread into about one inch cubes and set aside.

    In a med skillet fry sausage til browned. Drain n set aside.

    In another skillet fry onion n pepper til almost done and add mushrooms til everything is browned nicely. ( You can fry these to ur preference, we like ours to not have a crunch at all!!

    Once step two n three are finished combine eggs in a large bowl and beat well, whisk in milk and mustard and stir in bread. Let sit for about 10 min.

    Add onion, pepper, and mushrooms to sausage and mix well. Add to your bread mixture once 10 min is up.

    Stir in 3 cups of cheese. Poor mixture into a sprayed 9x13 in dish and top with remaining cheese.

    Bake at 350°F (F) for about 45 min til nice and golden brown.

    Let rest on counter for about 10 min or so. Enjoy!!!
