Ingredients

  1. 1/4 cuptuvar/ arhar dal
  2. 1/4 cupmasoor dal
  3. 2 cupschopped spinach (palak, bathua)
  4. 3green chilies (hari mirch), chopped
  5. 1 inchginger (adrak), chopped
  6. 1 teaspooncumin seeds (sabut jeera)
  7. 1/4 teaspoonasafoetida (hing)
  8. 1/2 teaspoonturmeric powder (haldi)
  9. 1/2 teaspoonred chilli powder (lal mirch powder)
  10. 2-3 cupswater, for pressure cooking the dals
  11. 1 cupwater, to be added to the dal in the last step
  12. 2-3 tablespoonsghee or oil
  13. to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Pressure cooking dals:' pick and wash the lentils. take the lentils in a pressure cooker with turmeric powdern salt.

  2. 2

    Add 2 to 3 cups of water and pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles or till the dals become soft and mushy.

    Mash the dals very well and keep aside

  4. 4

    Making palak dal recipe:- in a pan, heat ghee. fry the cumin and then add the chopped ginger and fry till the raw aroma of ginger goes away.

  5. 5

    Now add the chopped chilli and fry for half a minute. fry for a minute.

  6. 6

    Now add the chopped spinach. add red chilli powder and asafoetid

  7. 7

    Saute for some minutes till the spinach becomes soft and stops releasing water on a medium flame

  8. 8

    Now add the mashed lentils now. mix the lentils with the spinach.

  9. 9

    Add water around 1 cup depending on how thick or thin you want the dal to be.

  10. 10

    Simmer the spinach dal for 5 to 6 minutes.

  11. 11

    Serve spinach dal hot with rice
