My mother has made this dish since I was a kid. The meat was so tender and good that at night I ate up the leftover pieces. The next day all there was to have was noodles with the sauce. So worth getting into trouble:-) Taylor Topp Comacho -

Why I shared this recipe?I’m from Hungary, where beef goulash is one of our most beloved traditional dishes. I grew up eating it at family gatherings, and over the years, I’ve perfected my own version. I’m sharing this recipe to introduce American home cooks to the rich flavors of authentic Hungarian cuisine. I hope this comforting, hearty soup brings as much joy to your table as it does to ou Nagy Csaba -
Gulyásleves (Goulash Soup) Gulyásleves (Goulash Soup)
When I met my Hungarian girlfriend I soon learned that all my life I had been eating something completely different than I thought. The "goulash" I ate throughout my life (the one you can find in Dutch snackbars and households) resembles more to a poor imitation of what in Hungary they call pörkölt. This recipe for a traditional gulyásleves, comes from the region of Transylvania (Székelyföld) and it tastes delicious. Bart -
German Goulash German Goulash
Goulash is a staple restaurant dish in Germany. The flavor will vary from restaurant to restaurant, and the particular strengths of each chef shines through in this dish. I came across a version that I really loved, so tried making it myself.Keep the heat high while frying! The consistency of the sauce and amount of vegetables and meat will vary from restaurant to restaurant, but I like it with lots of vegetables, so this is definitely more of a stew than a soup. You can use pork or a mix of beef and pork. I looked up goulash here and I was mortified to see so many dishes called "goulash" that are not much more then Hamburger Helper made without the box. My Mom made this for us every New Year when we were kids. She learned it from my Hungarian grandmother and I learned it from my Mom. Goulash is a simple peasant dish from Hungary. Pork and sauerkraut in a meal on New Year's Day is supposed to bring good luck in the new year. No pasta and no ground beef included. LOL!EDITED FOR 2020 doug.chunyo -
