Steps

Beat shortening, granulated sugar and brown sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until creamy.

Add milk and vanilla.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition

Combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt in separate large bowl. Add gradually to shortening mixture, beating until well blended.

Heat oven to 350

Roll out 1/3 of dough at a time on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out shapes with floured 2 to 3 inch cookie cutters. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Sprinkle with sparkling sugar and decorator sprinkles, if desired.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes. Remove to wire rack o cool completely.

Frost and decorate as desired.
