Ingredients

  1. 1 cupbutter, softened
  2. 1/2 cuppowdered sugar
  3. 1 tspvanilla or almond extract
  4. 2 1/4 cupflour
  5. 1/4 tspsalt
  6. 3/4 cupchopped walnuts or chocolate chips (optional)

Steps

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 400°F.

  2. 2

    Mix butter, sugar and vanilla extract in an electric mixer.

  3. 3

    Gradually mix in flour and salt.

  4. 4

    Fold in nuts or chocolate chips, if using.

  5. 5

    Shape dough into balls and place 1 inch apart on ungressed cookie sheet.

  6. 6

    Bake for 10 minutes, or until set but not brown.

  7. 7

    Cool slightly, then roll in powdered sugar while still warm. Cool completely, then roll in powdered sugar again.
