Steps
- 1
In a pressure cooker, sauté chopped onion and 3 minced garlic cloves in a little oil. Then blend 2 tomatoes with a little water and strain them into the pot. Add 1 cup of lentils, enough water to cover them slightly, and season with 2 or 3 teaspoons of bouillon powder or salt, pepper, sweet paprika, cumin, and freshly grated ginger.
- 2
It should include berbere, which is a spice mix that is very hard to find in Mexico, but you can substitute it by adding a pinch of each of the following spices: ground chili, cumin, ground cilantro seeds, cloves, nutmeg, ground ginger, turmeric, sweet paprika, and ground cinnamon; we omit cardamom and fenugreek, which we also can't find.
