Traditional Middle Eastern Dessert made during festive season. This is a delicious semolina cake filled with flavours of rose water and coconut
Steps

Preheat oven to 180 and grease baking dish
- 2
Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl
- 3
Add beaten egg, yoghurt, oil, vanilla extract to dry mixture. Mix well to ensure no lumps are present

Pour the above mixture to baking dish
- 5
Bake for 30-40 minutes until top is browned. It should not get burnt or blackened

While it's baking, prepare sugar syrup

Boil sugar, water, rose water, lemon juice in a saucepan. Boil until syrup is thick and coats behind the spoon

Once Basbousa is baked, take it out from oven. Pour the sugar syrup immediately on top. Let it stand until syrup is completely absorbed by Basbousa

Sprinkle coconut flakes/ Dessicated coconut on top of Basbousa evenly

You can add crushed pistachios or almonds on top for additional garnishing
- 11
Refrigerate for 6-7 hours or overnight
- 12
Cut in diamond shapes and serve cold
