Cooking Mixed Grains

I love this ‘Mixed Grains’. It’s mostly Medium Grain Brown Rice, which is mixed with Wild Rice, Barley and Quinoa. You can make your own mix by adding whatever grains you love. Even a small type of beans such as Azuki can be added. However, you must be aware of the cooking time of the ingredients. Some grains and beans can be cooked quickly. Mixing that type of ingredients with hard-to-cook brown rice would be difficult.

When you cook 'Mixed Grains', I recommend you to cook more than you need and freeze the leftovers. Having the cooked ‘Mixed Grains” in the freezer is very handy.

Steps

  1. 1

If your rice cooker has ‘Brown Rice’ setting, cook according to your rice cooker instruction. This is how I cook.

  2. 2

Wash the Grain Mix well and drain water. Place the Grain Mix, Water, Olive Oil and Salt in a large sauce pan or rice cooker’s inner pot. *Note: The amount of Water depends on the types of the grains.

  3. 3

Cook over low heat until water is gone, or let the rice cooker to cook. After water is gone, you need to let it steam at least for 10 minutes.

  4. 4

I sometimes cook ‘Mixed Grains’ with Azuki Beans.

Hi! Thanks for this.I bought a 1 kilo mixed grains pack but I don’t know how to store it. Says on the pack to put in refrigerator. As is? Or do I need to transfer? The pack has a zip lock tho. Worried it will become damp inside and grow mold... tips? TIA
