French Toast Like When I Was a Kid

When I was a child, my mom often made us French toast for an afternoon snack. With four kids, she always had leftover bread... we also sometimes had bread pudding, but I loved French toast the most.
Today I found myself with half a stale baguette, so I took a trip down memory lane... and I still love it just as much.

Steps
- 1
In a mixing bowl, quickly beat the eggs with the sugar, then add the milk. Continue beating until the mixture is smooth.
- 2
Soak the bread slices in the egg and milk mixture. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a hot skillet. Sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar in the skillet and place the soaked bread slices on top.
- 3
Let the bread slices brown on both sides.
- 4
Sprinkle with sliced almonds and serve with a little extra sugar on top.
Serve warm.
- 5
Tip: Don't throw away any leftover milk mixture—use it for another cake, for example. I made a banana coconut cake with it. (http://www.epicechocolat.com/2018/10/cake-banane-noix-de-coco.html?m=1)
