Heat oil. Add all whole spices and asafoetida.

Add onions, green chillies and curry leaves and saute till the onions are translucent. Add coriander leaves and saute.

Add ginger garlic paste and saute well till the raw smell leaves.

Add tomato and salt and cook till the tomatoes are soft and mushy.

Add all the powdered spices and saute.

To it, add rice, masoor dal, hot water, soup cube and coriander leaves.

Let it come to a boil. On reaching boiling point, put the flame on low and cover and cook for about 12-15 minutes or till done.

Serve hot with Pickle of your choice.
