It's healthy, it's simple and it's oh-so-delicious, podi idli is one of my favorite breakfast dish, which I equally enjoy with a cup of tea in the evening.

If you have sesame oil, I would advise you to use that, instead of the desi ghee (which I have used in this recipe). That's the authentic way of preparing it, however, it tastes equally good with ghee, too.

If you've made podi idlis like this before, then don't forget to share a Cooksnap with me!

  3. 1 packeteno (fruit salt)
  4. Salt to taste
  5. 2 tbspghee
  6. 10-12curry leaves
  7. 1/2 tspmustard seeds
  8. 4-5 tbsppodi masala

Cooking Instructions

40 mins
  1. 1

Combine semolina and buttermilk and leave it aside for 10 mins. Then add fruit salt and mix.

  2. 2

Grease baby idli mould with oil.

  3. 3

Pour the batter in the moulds. Don't fill it up completely as the semolina will expand while cooking.

  5. 5

Put ghee in a kadhai and put mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let the mustard seeds crackle.

  6. 6

Put baby idlis in the kadhai and toss with the tempering.

  7. 7

Sprinkle podi masala on the idlis and toss.

  8. 8

Once the podi masala gets coated properly, serve the idlis in a bowl and serve hot. Enjoy with chutney or by themselves.
