Healthy and nutritious khichdi with soya chunks is a delicious meal to prepare in 15 minutes. I always try to prepare it for sunday lunch.
Cooking Instructions

Wash rice and dal 2-3 times in running water or till the water gets clear. Keep aside for 15 minutes.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and when cumin seeds splutter add 1bay leaf, 8-10 black peppercorns, 4 cloves, 1 cardamom, and cinnamon stick and saute for 30 seconds.

Add chopped onions and saute till golden. Now add finely chopped tomatoes and green chili and saute for 1 minute.

Add salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder and garam masala and mix well. Add rice and dal and mix well. Add water and place the lid and cook till 5-6 whistle. Switch off the flame and let pressure release automatically.

Serve hot with Raita or pickle or mint chutney.

Childhood memories: Sunday was family day. Our traditional Sunday lunch would always include a fresh deep fried fish and Hasmo. This would be served on a thaal which is a big silver plate. “Hasmo” for us means mixing everything together. We’d mix the dhaal, rice , roti , fried chillies , kachumber (onion salad) together in the middle of the thaal and then make a tiny space to put the hot charcoal and then pour hot ghee over the mixture. We would then cover all with another big plate to smoke it. Once smoked we would all enjoy and eat together. It is a family food that I really miss!I would call this dish that I made today as ‘Hasmo’ but other people call it ‘Dal Khichdi’ or ‘Khichdi’This is how I made mine. M.A.DFoodie -
