Lemon doughnuts
Suitable for a filling breakfast or snack.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
In a small bowl, add in yeast, warm water and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Give it a quick stir and leave the yeast to bloom for 10 min.
- 2
In a large bowl, mix all your dry ingredients: flour, sugar and lemon zest. Make a well at the center and add in your wet ingredients: milk, melted butter, egg, lemon juice, lemon essence and the bloomed yeast.
- 3
Knead the dough until its done and soft. Grease the bowl and cover the dough with a olastic wrap. Leave it in a warm place to proof for 1 hr.
- 4
After proofing, knead the dough slowly. Divide the dough into equal pieces. Roll out the pieces into a circle. Using a doughnut cutter... Cut equal sized pieces. If you don't have a doughnut cutter use the rim of glass to cut and a small sized bottle top to make the centre hole. Repeat until the dough is over.
- 5
Put the cut doughnuts onto a tray... Cover them with a towel so that they can proof for an additional 30 min.
- 6
Heat some oil in a pan... Do not let it be so hot as the doughnuts cook very fast. Fry them till browned. You can have them plain or coat them with lemon glaze. Enjoy

Krispy Kreme-style Doughnuts Krispy Kreme-style Doughnuts
For Krispy Kreme doughnuts, I heard that you should not use bread flour (I don't know whether or not this is true) , so I used cake flour instead. They're the best freshly cooked. If they have cooled, just heat them up slightly in the microwave and dig in. Use whatever you like for the toppings. Recipe by Chopomama cookpad.japan -
Glazed Doughnuts (Yeast Doughnuts) Glazed Doughnuts (Yeast Doughnuts)
I have attempted so many bread type doughnut recipes. I took the best ingredient ratios, mixing then adding to pan, then coating, from several recipes.Try to use new oil to fry these! You can substitute the egg with milk, but they will begin hardening the next day.If the dough contains too much moisture, it will evaporate when fried and they will wither when taken out of the oil. So please control the amount of moisture in the dough. I increased the amount of butter to give it a richer taste. For 8 doughnuts. Recipe by narimi mama cookpad.japan -
Baked Doughnuts Baked Doughnuts
These are simply so good and just as delicious as fried doughnuts. This is a keeper for all your doughnut cravings and they go well with pretty much any toppings or stuffings. They do take a while to make as they are yeast doughnuts but they are more than worth it.If using active dry yeast, add to the wet ingredients and let sit for about 10 minutes before adding to the dry ingredients. Also, I made these in the evening so excuse me for the bad camera quality.
