Growing up I remember my mom would always have homemade beans ready, for breakfast, or lunch or dinner. There was always some ready. My mom would freeze her beans also to have them ready for a fast meal. She showed me how to make these growing up so I could pass down the recipe to my kids one day.

Ingredients

2 hours
  1. 4 cupsdry beans (I use casserole pinto beans)
  2. Start with 11 cups water
  3. 1jalapeno
  4. 1yellow onion cut in half
  5. 1/2 tsppepper
  6. 2 tspsalt
  7. 1 tsponion powder
  8. 1 tspgarlic powder
  9. 1 ozsalt pork (optional)

Cooking Instructions

2 hours
  1. 1

Bring 11 cups water to boil

  2. 2

    Rinse beans in strainer

  3. 3

Add jalapeno, onion, salt pork, onion powder, garlic powder, salt

  4. 4

Keep an eye on beans so they don't run out of water. After 30 min of cooking I usually add 2 cups more water. Place lid back on to continue cooking.

  5. 5

After 30 min pass add 2 more cups water.

  6. 6

30 more min pass add 1 more cup of water

  7. 7

You will know when the beans are done. The beans will surface to the top. Once they are done taste and add more seasoning to your liking
