Ingredients

  1. 3 cupsflour
  2. 1 cupsugar
  3. 1 cupbuttermilk
  4. 1 tbspbaking powder
  5. 1/2 tspsalt
  6. 1 tspground nutmeg (optional)
  7. 1/2 cupshortening

Cooking Instructions

    In a bowl, mix all the above ingredients and cover bowl with cling film
    •Refrigerate dough overnight (the dough is easier to handle when refrigerated overnight)

    Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and roll using a rolling pin until *1inch* thick
    •Cut out rolled dough with a doughnut cutter and place doughnuts on a tray/baking sheet

  3. 3

    Heat oil in a large pan and deep-fry doughnuts turning once/twice or until puffed and golden brown
    •Transfer to a tray lined with paper towel to drain oil completely
