Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

Tweaked this recipe I found to help use up the ham that seemed to be growing! Plus I need that ham bone for ham and beans!

Ingredients

60 minutes
8-10 servings
  1. 3 tablespoonsbutter
  2. 1small diced onion
  3. 3 tablespoonsflour
  4. 1 cuphalf and half
  5. 1/2 cupwhole milk
  6. salt and pepper to taste
  7. 1 teaspoongarlic powder
  8. 1/2 teaspoonWorcestershire sauce
  9. 1/2 teaspoononion powder
  10. 1/2 teaspoonpaprika
  11. 4large baking potatoes, scrubbed peeled and thinly sliced
  12. 1 1/2 cupschopped ham
  13. 3/4 cupgrated Cheddar cheese
  14. 3/4 cupgrated Monterey Jack cheese (or use whatever you have)

Cooking Instructions

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a 9x13 baking dish with spray or butter.

    Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, cook and stir until starting to soften 3-4 minutes. Sprinkle flour over onion and whisk together. Cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Add garlic powder,Worcestershire sauce, onion powder and paprika to the milk and half and half mixture. Add to the pan and whisk until thickened (takes less then 5 minutes). Remove from heat, add salt and pepper to taste.

    Place half the sliced potatoes into baking dish, top with half the ham. Sprinkle 1/2 each cheese on top. Cover with half the skillet mixture. Repeat layering ending with layer of cheese and sauce. Cover with aluminum foil.

    Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20-30 minutes until sauce is bubbling and cheese is melted and golden.

This is a great recipe. I put the cheese in the sauce accidentally instead of layering it in, it was still delicious!
