Easy and Flavorful Squid with Daikon Radish

I made this because I was asked to make a squid radish daikon dish.
Cook the squid from water.
This is how the squid becomes tender.
Beveling is hard with a knife, but it's super easy to do with a peeler. Recipe by Yucchan**

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut the squid and radish into round slices.
- 2
Put some cuts into the radish. Cut around all the edges. If it's not too troublesome, bevel the edges as well (In order to let the flavor soak inside).
- 3
Helpful tip: It's easy to bevel the radish if you use a peeler.
- 4
Combine water, squid and radish into a pot and simmer.
- 5
Once the radish is transparent, combine the ☆ ingredients and place an aluminum otoshibuta drop lid on top of it. Cook for about 15 minutes. (Wrinkle the aluminum foil.)
- 6
Turn off the heat and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. (This time allows the flavor to soak into the radish.)
- 7
Heat it up again before serving, arrange it onto a plate and it's ready.

Tender Simmered Daikon Radish with Squid Tender Simmered Daikon Radish with Squid
I heard from a TV program that squid will turn out tender if you add it to water before boiling. So when making my "simmered daikon radish with squid" recipe I added the squid before boiling, and it came out very tender. Remember to add the squid before bringing everything to a simmer. The squid will be tough and chewy if you cook it over high heat for a long time. The taste penetrates into the daikon radish while cooling off, so cook it for 15-20 minutes, cool it off and warm it up again before serving. If you prefer a strong taste, adjust it by adding more mentsuyu. Squid Daikon for Japanese-Style Bentos Squid Daikon for Japanese-Style Bentos
For my recent companion who likes Japanese flavors:* Squid Daikon* Burdock root (gobo), carrots, and green beans wrapped in chicken tenders and fried* Tamagoyaki (pan-fried rolled egg) with mentaiko (spiced roe) and green onion* Simmered arame-type kelp* Rice with black bean and mixed grains* Takuan (pickled daikon radish)Boil the daikon until it's soft.First bring the simmering sauce's flavoring ingredients to a strong boil before adding adding the squid.Don't overcook the squid; it gets hard. The broth will be squid scented.Add the water to the sauce, and then let the daikon absorb all the flavors as it simmers in the squid-scented sauce. The squid is added back in to simmer again at the end, so the squid and the daikon are both tender.
