Ingredients

4 servings
  • 1 CupSabudana (Sago / Tapioca Pearls)
  • 2Medium Sized Potatoes, boiled
  • 1/4 cupPeanuts
  • 1/4 CupPeanuts crushed
  • 1-2Green Chillies (Hari Mirchi)
  • 1 TeaspoonBlack Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • 1 TeaspoonCumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • 1/2 TeaspoonTurmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1/2 TeaspoonBlack Pepper Powder (Kali Mirch)
  • 1 TeaspoonSalt or Rock Salt (Sendha Namak)
  • PinchAsafoetida (Hing)
  • 2 TablespoonsGhee
  • 1 TeaspoonLemon juice
  • 1/2 TeaspoonSugar
  • As requiredCoriander for Garnishing
  • As requiredCurry leaves for Tadka

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the Sabudana (Tapioca Pearls) with water 5-6 times till the water runs clear, then drain the water. Soak the Sabudana for 4-5 hours or overnight.

  2. 2

    Add Salt,Pepper, Sugar, & lemon juice to the Soaked Sabudana and mix gently.

  3. 3

    Heat oil in a pan and add Black Mustard Seeds (Rai). When the Mustard Seeds start to splutter, add Cumin Seeds (Jeera) to the pan. Then add Curry leaves & Hing.

  4. 4

    Dry roast the peanuts separately in a pan or in the microwave and then add it to the pan roasted peanuts & When the peanuts are roasted add finely chopped green chillies to the pan.

  5. 5

    Now add Sabudana, crushed peanut powder, turmeric, & mix well.

  6. 6

    Cover the pan with a lid and let the sabudana khichdi cook for 3-5 minutes. Garnish with chopped Coriander.

  7. 7

    Sabudana Khichdi is ready. Serve hot with Masala Chai.
