Wash & soak chana dal for 1-2 hours. Boil dal with 1 tomato, 1 bay leaf till tender. Mash little. In anothr pan add 2 Tbsp oil add sliced onion. Fry to pink thn add ginger garlic paste, fry to 1-2 minutes. Add salt, haldi, lal mirch with splash of water and fry masal. Thn add lauki pieces in it. Fry till 5 minutes.

Add the boiled cal to this pan with 1 cup water. Let the looki cook on low to medium heat. Stirring in between as not to stick dal to bottom or make lumps. Try to avoid breaking lauki pieces. When lauki gets tender. Mix the dal.

Make bhagar with oil, sabut lal mirch, zeera, curry patta and hari mirch. Pour over dal. Sprinkle garam masala before serving. Garnish with lemon and dhania.it goes well with chapati and rice both.Enjoy
