You can cut the eggplant into cubes or slices. I used mint and parsley instead of basil for a change—I make this often, so I included a photo I took a while ago at the end.

Wash and cut the eggplant into cubes.

Fry the eggplant in a small pan with a little olive oil.

Make the sauce by sautéing the garlic and adding the tomato sauce. Stir in the chopped herbs.

Cook the pasta and drain.

Toss the pasta with the sauce and add the fried eggplant.

You can also make it with sliced eggplant and basil if you prefer.
