Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 1/4 cupmascot dal(dehusked brown lentils)
  2. 1/8 cupmoong dal(split green gram)
  3. 1/8 cuptuvar dal(pigeon pea lentils)
  4. as requiredWater to wash, soak and cook
  5. 1/2 tspTurmeric powder
  6. as per tasteSalt
  7. as requiredGhee
  8. 1 tbspoil
  9. 1 tspjeera
  10. 1/4 tspAsafoetida
  11. 4dried red chillies
  12. FewCurry leaves
  13. 1 1/2 " Ginger
  14. 7-8 clovesgarlic
  15. 1small onion (finely chopped)
  16. 1small tomato(finely chopped)
  17. 2green chillies
  18. 1/4 tspTurmeric powder
  19. 1 tspred chilli powder
  20. 1 tspcoriander powder
  21. 1/2 tspkasuri methi
  22. to tasteSalt
  23. 1 tbspCoriander leaves
  24. 1 tbspbutter

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash all dals twice and soak for 15-20 mins. Add turmeric powder and pressure cook it for 4 whistles. Let it cool down naturally. keep aside.

  2. 2

    Now prepare tadka. Take a deep bottom kadhai. Add 3 tbsp of ghee and 1/2 tsp oil, cumin seeds, Asafoetida, red chillies, curry leaves, ginger, garlic, onion, tomato. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, kasuri methi. Cook for 2 mins on medium flame.

    Take out some portion for garnishing. Now add cooked dal to the kadhai. Add salt.

    Before switching off the flame and butter to it. Garnish with the remaining tadka before serving.
