Ingredients

6 people
  • 1big loaf white bread, torn and toasted in oven on cookie sheet
  • 1recipe of my cornbread, or two packaged cornbread, crumbled
  • 3onions, chopped
  • 1 bunchcelery, chopped
  • 1 stickbutter
  • Vegetable broth
  • 3-4eggs
  • Ground sage to taste (needs to be fairly fresh)
  • to tasteSalt
  • to tastePepper

Steps

  1. 1

    Crumble and toast bread and cornbread (you don’t have to toast cornbread).

  2. 2

    Sauté onions and celery in butter until tender.

  3. 3

    In large roasting pan, add bread, cornbread, sautéd vegetables, eggs. Mix together. Add broth until mixture is good and moist.

  4. 4

    Add sage to taste- I usually start with 1-2 tsp. and stir, taste mixture, and continue adding one teaspoon at a time until you can really taste the sage. Add salt and pepper to taste.

  5. 5

    Bake at 350 for about 30-45 minutes (it can take longer) until knife in center comes out clean.
