Place the lotus root onto a plate, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave for 3 minutes.

Put the roughly chopped hanpen and egg into a food processor, and stop when just blended.
- 3
Combine the hanpen mixture from Step 2, cheese, and flour in a bowl.
- 4
Divide Step 3 into 10 portions. Spoon the lotus root mixture on top, and wrap with nori seaweed cut into half lengthwise.

- 6
They are delicious without sauce, but you can eat with wasabi soy sauce if you prefer.

Crispy-Fried Hanpen Fishcake with Cheese Crispy-Fried Hanpen Fishcake with Cheese
Hanpen comes in handy; it has nice flavour and cooks through easily. I created this quick and easy recipe by using common ingredients I had on hand. It's easier to use 2 spoons to shape the mixture, and drop it into the pan in Step 5.Hanpen, cheese, and ham have their own flavour already, so it's ok to eat them without sauce. But if you want, add some sauce or ketchup. For 2-4 servings (about 12 pieces). Recipe by caramel-cookie cookpad.japan -
Pan Fried, Shiso Flavored Sandwiched Lotus Root Pan Fried, Shiso Flavored Sandwiched Lotus Root
I've tried out many methods for making sandwiched lotus root, and this is the one I've settled on.When putting the meat filling between the lotus root slices, put in what may seem like a bit too much and squeeze it in. You can use ground chicken too. This is great in bentos. For 2 to 3 servings. Recipe by Kechauru recipe cookpad.japan -
Crusty Fluffy Fried Hanpen with Ham and Cheese Crusty Fluffy Fried Hanpen with Ham and Cheese
I like to grill the hanpen with ham and cheese, so this time I fried them.If you overcook them, they will expand and shrink, so fry quickly in high temperature. Otherwise, it will shrink and become like kamaboko fish cakes. You can also add basil or shiso leaves into the filling. For 2 servings. Recipe by Sorara82 cookpad.japan -
Macrobiotic ^^ Fried Lotus Root Seaweed Macrobiotic ^^ Fried Lotus Root Seaweed
I'd found a recipe from somewhere way back when for fried lotus root seaweed. Since I started a macrobiotic diet, I substituted the egg with nagaimo. Deep Fried Sandwiched Lotus Root and Chicken Bento Deep Fried Sandwiched Lotus Root and Chicken Bento
I make bento every day. I made this bento keeping the balance of 5 flavors (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami) as well as color in mind.I recommend using a good tasting salt to sprinkle on the fried lotus root. With the lotus root as the main component, add shreded cabbage and cherry tomatoes, bite sized koya dofu (freeze-dried tofu) simmered in dashi stock, sliced fresh radish, and sweet-sour pickled vegetables to the bento. Stir-fried and Simmered New Potato and Lotus Root with Sesame Seeds Stir-fried and Simmered New Potato and Lotus Root with Sesame Seeds
I added lotus root and sesame seeds to the usual stir fried and simmered new potato dish to add volume and flavor. The new potatoes and lotus root are both dense and floury. The sweet-salty sauce is so good! The new potatoes are cut in half before cooking, so you cut down on cooking time and make it easy for the flavors to soak in.If you add chicken thigh meat, it will become even heartier and can be used as a main dish. For 2 generous servings. Recipe by yaburie cookpad.japan -
Sweet & Salty Lotus Root Cheese Patties Sweet & Salty Lotus Root Cheese Patties
Regular lotus root patties are common, but I started thinking that they would taste good with cheese, so I made these. At first, I grated the lotus root by hand, but that was so much work that I started using a food processor, and they came out so well. When you add them to the frying pan, they may fall apart easily, so be careful. When the bottom has become crispy, flip it over. If you don't have a food processor, you can grate them by hand, using a grater. Recipe by Raby cookpad.japan -
Sautéed Hanpen Fishcake with Sesame Seed and Japanese Leek Sauce Sautéed Hanpen Fishcake with Sesame Seed and Japanese Leek Sauce
Earlier, I posted a recipe on Kanikama (imitation crab sticks) with Welsh onion sauce, but I also recommend this recipe. The taste is suited to men and women of all ages. The interesting texture also makes it a fun dish.To help consume the bumper-crop of daikon (white radish) leaves harvested from my father-in-law's garden, I also used daikon leaves. Try this out when your store-bought daikon comes with the leaves. Recipe by ayureo cookpad.japan
