Ingredients

2 jars yield
  1. Traditional Apple Sauce:
  2. 5apples, (skin left on or peeled if preferred), chopped,
  3. 1.5 tbspgranulated sugar,
  4. 1 tspsoftened butter, (you can use reduced fat if preferred),
  5. 1small pinch salt
  6. 1 dashwater
  7. Spiced Apple Sauce:
  8. 5apples, (skin left on or peeled if preferred), chopped,
  9. 1.5 tbspgranulated sugar,
  10. 1 tspbutter (you can use reduced fat if you wish),
  11. 1 pinchsalt,
  12. 1/2 tspfennel seeds,
  13. 1/2 tspdried thyme,
  14. 1/4 tspgarlic puree paste or powder,
  15. 1/4 tspwhite pepper,
  16. 2cracks black pepper,
  17. 1 dashwater

Steps

  1. 1

    For traditional apple sauce:
    Heat a saucepan up over a medium heat. Add the sugar. Once melted add in the chopped apples, add a small dash of water.

    Once the apples begin to soften up add in the butter, stir through until melted. Season with a tiny bit of salt. Simmer with a lid on, removing to stir occasionally for around 8-10 minutes until 80% of the apples have completely broken down and a few softened lumps remain. Remove from the heat and leave to cool. Spoon into a sterilised jar. Store in the fridge.

    For spiced apple sauce:

    Season with salt and the white & black pepper. Add in the fennel seeds, thyme and garlic. Stir through. Simmer with a lid on, removing to stir occasionally for around 8-10 minutes until 80% of the apples have completely broken down and a few softened lumps remain. Remove from the heat and leave to cool. Spoon into a sterilised jar. Store in the fridge.
