DOMBOLO / STEAMED BREAD
Widely made in Southern Africa
Steps
- 1
Grease a large enamel bowl or a heat resistant bowl with butter or margarine
- 2
Sift all dry ingredients together into a separate bowl
- 3
Make a well in the center and add the warm water
- 4
Knead dough until it is well combined and is not sticking to your hands
- 5
Transfer dough to greased bowl and cover with cling wrap or towel.
Leave to rise in a warm place for at least 30 minutes - 6
In a large pot, put enough water to reach halfway of the bowl. Such that when water boils as dough is steaming, the water does not wet dough.
Place greased bowl with dough into the water pot.
Cover with lid and bring to boil.
Boil or steam for 1 hour
- 7
Insert a toothpick to check if bread is cooked. Toothpick or knife must come out dry.
If ready, turn out the dough.
- 8
Steamed bread or DOMBOLO is done. Enjoy hot or room temperature with your favourite side.
