Halwa, Poori, and Kheer

During Navratri, on the ninth day (Navami), halwa, poori, and chana are offered as prasad. On Navami, young girls are worshipped and served this special meal as part of the celebration.

Heat the ghee in a large pan. Add the semolina and roast until it changes color slightly. Add the sugar and mix well. Then add water as needed and cook until the halwa is ready.

In a bowl, make a dough with the whole wheat flour. Divide into small balls and roll each into a small circle. Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the pooris until golden brown.

Fry all the pooris in the same way and set aside.

In a pot, bring the milk to a boil. Add the rice for kheer and cook until the rice is soft.

Add sugar and crushed cardamom. Once the rice is fully cooked, you can add your choice of chopped nuts. Turn off the heat.

Soak the chickpeas overnight. In the morning, drain and rinse them with clean water 1-2 times. Add rock salt to the chickpeas.

I used plain chickpeas, but you can also cook them with spices if you prefer.

Your delicious Navami prasad—halwa, poori, and chana—is ready. This is considered a favorite offering for the goddess.
