Masoor Dal Gobhi Masala

Masoor dal cooked with cauliflower (phool gobhi) is a delicious recipe and can be relished as either a dal or a curry. I learnt this recipe from my mother and she uses very less masala but it tastes fabulous. I gave the recipe a twist of flavour and taste by adding timur (schezwan pepper).

Masoor dal cooked with cauliflower (phool gobhi) is a delicious recipe and can be relished as either a dal or a curry. I learnt this recipe from my mother and she uses very less masala but it tastes fabulous. I gave the recipe a twist of flavour and taste by adding timur (schezwan pepper).
Steps

First, chop cauliflower, remove skin and chop the potato, wash and half boil them in microwave or normal pot.

Pressure cook (don't soak) the masoor dal after washing 2-3 times. Use one and half cup of water. Set aside.

Heat oil, add the bay leaf, all garam masala ingredients mentioned, and lastly timur seeds on low heat.

When the masala sizzles, add chopped onion and fry them. Add green chillies and chopped tomatoes.

Further add turmeric, salt, dry ginger powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and cook the masala till tomatoes are soft and mushy.

Add the boiled dal and vegetables to the masala. Bring to boil for two minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander. Serve alongside green mango chutney and steamed hot rice.
